Eisenstadt

Our weekend of exploration continued with a visit to Eisenstadt on Sunday. Eisenstadt is the capital of Burgenland and about a 45 minute drive from Vienna. It's a rather small city but very nice as it was the seat of the Eszterházy family. The main site in town is Schloss Esterházy which is a palace that we were surprised to find was quite busy even though it was a cloudy day.
Eisenstadt is only 7 miles from the Hungarian border and it lies on a plain which gives the area a look similar to what I grew up with in the Midwest. Whenever I am so close to Hungary I get a craving for goulash but we didn't find a proper brewery until after I had already grabbed a snack. I am prepared and know exactly where to go for our next visit to the city though.
